This study aims to determine the effect of students' initial ability on students' ability to solve trigonometry problems in class XI Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Pangkep. The main problems of this study are: 1) How much is the value of students' initial ability (prerequisite knowledge)?; 2) How much is the value of students' ability to solve trigonometry problems in class XI MAN Pangkep?; 3) Is there an effect of students' initial ability on students' ability to solve trigonometry problems in class XI MAN Pangkep?

This type of research is correlational research with a quantitative approach. The population in this study were all students of class XI MIA Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Pangkep in the 2022/2023 school year with a research sample of 31 students of class XI MIA 2 selected using the Cluster Random Sampling method. Data collection used instruments of initial ability (prerequisites) and ability to solve problems to obtain data on student math scores and student learning outcomes through written tests. All data were analyzed with descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistics. The results of descriptive statistical analysis showed that the scores of students' initial ability scores obtained an average value of 61,94. While the score of the ability to solve the problem obtained an average value of 79.03. Based on the results of inferential analysis, hypothesis testing is carried out by testing the analysis requirements, namely the normality test. This shows that the normality value is sig. . While through the linearity test, the initial ability with the ability to solve problems (KM) is  And using a simple regression test  So it can be concluded that there is an effect of students' initial ability on students' ability to solve trigonometry problems in class XI MIA 2 Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Pangkep.
